ACE Program

we have something for everyone

Partners in Parenting offers a Day Service program from Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:00pm in Ottawa located at 3020 Hawthorne Rd. Participants in our Day Service program are assigned to a group of peers and staff and volunteer members. Through group interaction, participants engage in various activities throughout the day. Our program places equal emphasis on educational, social and recreational sessions. There are also planned outings providing participants an opportunity to interact with old friends and to make new ones.

Recreation is encouraged through monthly bowling outings, seasonal swims at Plant Pool and team sport/leisure activities.  Our program also offers a music-based exercise program that is run on Mondays and Friday mornings prior to program start. Time is allotted for individual ‘Range of Motion’ programs or occupational therapy programs during physical activity time. Relaxation is promoted through ‘snoezelen-type’ sessions.

The educational component has a focus to maintain acquired skills. Each day of the month has an assigned activity. There are group discussions, activity sheets, novel studies, computer work and hands on games that participants are able to enjoy and learn from. School-based subjects such as math, science, reading, writing, history and geography are covered at some point during the month. Fine motor skills are developed and maintained through crafting activities done three times/week.  Gross motor activities to enhance and maintain large motor muscles are offered within a fun, supportive, manner throughout the daily program.

Life Skills

Cooking and Nutrition is a favored life skill of all participants. We have designated days set aside for each group to prepare a budget, shop for ingredients, and cook the meal. The nutritional component teaches proper eating habits and focuses on Canada’s food guide. Other life skills that are taught are household chores, community safety, fire prevention and safety and community awareness.

Music Therapy

Music Therapy is provided by “Musical Wellness”, by Nigel Harris. We enjoy all genres of music and play along with our selection of instruments. Nigel will even take requests! Karaoke is also a favourite of many of our participants.

Friday Movies & Games

Friday afternoon is set aside for popcorn and a movie and/or group games. Participants have the choice as to which activity they attend! Our Day Service program is able to accommodate many interests, hobbies and needs. To discuss our Day Service program, please contact Meghann Gallant, Program Manager at

You must not let anyone define your limits because of where you come from. Your only limit is your soul. ~ Gusteau, Ratatouille

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not. ~ Dr. Seuss

Our family has fostered with Partners In Parenting for almost ten years. Their heart for children in care is evident. In fact, the founders of Partners In Parenting began as foster parents. The organization has never lost that desire to provide a successful fostering experience for both the child and foster family. As a Partners’ foster family, we benefit from 24 hour/7 days a week support. The on-call system ensures that you can talk with a person rather than a machine whenever help is needed. With this level of support, we are able to confidently provide the love and care of a family for children in care. ~ Mary Ruth

We applied to become foster parents with Partners in Parenting in 1998. We chose Partners in Parenting because it is a small, caring organization that is committed to providing compassionate care to foster children. The organization is unique in providing each family with a Foster Family Supervisor who provides guidance on the many new experiences and challenges in fostering. Foster parents are provided with ongoing training with respect to mental health issues, physical and sexual abuse and the many special needs that affect the children who come into care. As Partners in Parenting foster parents, we work with a wide range of professionals who are committed to foster children. Through this organization, we have developed close friendships with other foster parents whom we have met through monthly meetings and foster family activities. Fostering is a life changing experience and Partners in Parenting and its foster parents are an amazing group to work with and who understand the calling of a foster parent. ~ Bonnie & Claude
